‘Tis the season to be feast-ful!
Just because you follow the vegan lifestyle, that does not mean that you should miss out this season. Although you may be forgoing the traditional roast turkey and barbecued seafood, there is still a bounty of delicious options out there for a tasty vegan feed this Christmas. Especially, paired with vegan friendly wines courtesy of Vineful and available in our Festive Organic Box.
Start your meal off with seasonal and refreshing watermelon; bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, balsamic vinegar and vegan mozzarella; and for something a little extra, why not try this exquisite stuffed mushroom recipe from Simple Vegan Blog? All of which will pair very well with the vegan friendly Il Villagio Organic Pinot Grigio 2018. Offering a lovely fresh nose of stone fruit, spice, and subtle musk. Very pure and beautifully layered with fruit-driven flavours of nashi pear and freshly cut apple building to a textured mid-palate with a minerality and briney twang. A lovely start to a delicious vegan feast.
For the sides to the main meal, you can’t go wrong with perfectly roasted root veggies with olive oil and a generous seasoning of salt and pepper. Roast together with fresh or dried herbs and a whole garlic bulb for an extra-strong burst of flavour. Plus, the garlic bulb itself makes a great addition to the dinner plate. Well-roasted garlic can be spread over our next suggestion: charred corn. Another seasonal produce, you can pick up a few ears of corn at the local farmers’ market, strip the outer leaves, rinse and place onto a barbecue grill directly. No oil needed. Carefully turn with tongs until a lovely char is achieved.
These sides can be perfectly complemented with a glass of Bernard Schurr Organic Côtes du Rhône Villages. Hand-crafted from small parcels that showcase one of France’s most celebrated wine-making regions. This is a lovely wine of brightness, lifted fruit and plenty of drive but finishing savoury and long. It can stand up to the richness of the garlic in your tasty roasted veggies.
For the “pièce de résistance”, we suggest Suzy Spoon’s Festive Roast. A delicious roulade of seitan, nuts, cranberries and traditional herbs with a tantalising crunchy outer layer. It makes the perfect centrepiece this festive season. The roast is very easy to cook. Simply preheat oven to 180°C, remove the outer packaging and bake in the oven for at least 40 minutes or until heated all the way through. Carefully poke a skewer through the roast to ensure an even cook. Find more instructions and information on the roast click here.
We recommend pairing this special roast with Fusspot Organic Shiraz 2018. Crafted in dry-grown organically farmed vineyards in the heart of McLaren Vale. Organic and vegan friendly, this Shiraz is a wine of wonderful intensity yet medium to full in weight. It is bright with lifted aromatics of plum, mulberry and blueberry fruit with cedarwood, clove and black pepper spices. The palate is rich and layered with succulent fruits, brown spices, violet and tar. Fine tannins and a finishing clip of acidity act in support of the fruitful flavours and help drive a very long finish.
Finish your delicious feast with a seasonal homemade strawberry sorbet paired with (or even made with) See No Evil Organic Rosé 2019. This Rosé is pale in colour, with a nose that shows nicely restrained red fruits, as well as rose petals and spice notes. The palate is abundant with vibrant red berry and candied fruits with layers of complexity ending in a long and dry finish. It’s a perfect mindful drop for summer.
All these wines are available in our Festive Organic Mix, the perfect collection for the season!
